September 1, 2000 2 weeks and one day post op…

Well, this has been a LONG week… I ended up falling ill with a terrible sinus infection and cold. I really felt lousy. I felt saying to myself, ‘gosh I felt better the first week!’ My mother was here until yesterday so thankfully I could just rest. I did take about a mile walk on Sunday (9 days post op) and other than a little tired and sore I think it was good for me. I am a pretty active person anyway, so it felt great to get out.

I went to the PS on Wednesday for a check up and, I was really worried about the end of my left side smiley incision, (the end under my arm). It was so red and sore. I was sure I had an infection or something, but all it was, was the end of the disposable stitching that he had taped up in the steri-strips pulling. It was a bit inflamed, but he looked at me, and his nurse took off the tapes and showed me the incisions with a mirror. All I could say was wow…

I could see the cuts, but they were all closed. I had no drains to I did not have any openings where they would have been.

She then taped them back up with paper tape, and said to change the tape once a week. My husband watched and learned and said he could do it no problem. I was a little sore after the tape was taken off, it felt like a band aid being removed on a sore area of skin. (Which it essentially was) I was told to come back in 4 weeks unless I needed anything or had any concerns. I have to say that I love my PS and his staff; they are just so kind and supportive.

I am driving now without any difficulty, and really other than the burning where the incisions are, and the occasional soreness, I feel good as far as my Breasts are concerned. But I feel miserable with this sinus thing…

Thursday evening I realized my left side, where I was worried about, was really sore, so I peeled back a pit of the tape and some puss came out of a tiny little crater where that stitch was, I cleansed it with water and put a loose piece of gauze on it and went to bed, this morning (Friday) I looked at it and it looks better, apparently it was a bit inflamed so I am glad I let the yucky out.

I still felt like garbage today, sore throat, low-grade fever, cough, congestion… you know all those things that makes up typical sinusitis. So I went to the Dr… he gave me some Ammoxicillin, and a decongestant. I have to admit I am glad for the antibiotics for the sinuses and just to ward off any other infections since I do not see my PS for another month.

I also had my husband help me take off the paper tape off the smiley incisions since I am having a little reaction to the paper tape on those incisions. I replaced the tape with steri-strips and they already feel better. I left the paper tape on the loli-pop stick and around the areolas.

Speaking of nipples, my left side is still pretty numb, but not dead… Its hard to explain, but if I touch my nipple all I feel is the pressure, so if a feather happened to fly across my nude breast I would feel nothing… BUT, if that feather kept flying across the nipple the nipple would get erect, and scientifically speaking would release oxytocin. In other words, that’s the hormone that makes a woman get turned on by nipple stimulation. I am hoping to get the feeling back in the nipple, but I have to say I am very excited to know that the nipple does get erect, and therefore the blood is flowing as it is supposed to. I never really have had sensation in the nipples since my daughter was born in 1997, so just being able to feel the stimulation in each nipple is nice, and something I had long forgotten about.

I still have less stamina that normal, and its still pretty tender to cuddle with my son. I have tried on a few regular sports bras (with no openings), and even a few regular bras, but I am going to stay with the front opening bras for a while until the incisions are healing. I can easily sleep on both sides now, although at times I find I hit a sore area so I have to adjust. I am starting to want to exercise now, which is still a no no, so I am going to start walking about a mile a day in about a week (when I am more recovered from this sinus thing).

On a personal note, I ran into a friend today who knew I had the surgery and was very supportive, and she said I looked so good. I know to me it’s a huge change, but to others they may not notice, but I sure do, and it feels so good to hear someone say to you that you look nice.
