September 7, 2000, three weeks post op
Well I have to say once I got that sinus infection under control I felt 100% percent better! How ironic is that, you have major surgery and its a sinus infection that kicks you in your hiney lol.
I am really feeling good, I think I may have hit a bit of post op delayed moodiness this week, but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that my wonderful mother who was here for a couple weeks, left a week ago, and I have had to rely on my wonderful husband to take care of the kids, and the house. Do not get me wrong he tries, he does, but I felt like all I was doing was chasing him around and ordering him to do things that I did without thinking. So I asked him to consider going back to work on the 11th. We decided that we would see how I felt by tomorrow, but today I told him I was good to go, so he is going to return to work next week. I will just refrain from running the sweeper and any heavy lifting. It will not be easy with my little boy, but I will manage.
As far as other housework like dishes and laundry, I am finding it not to be a problem. I have been walking a bit, just once or twice in the last week for about 15 minutes, and I think the fresh air is really helping me to not feel so stir crazy.
As far as my incisions, the smiley s are doing great. Last week when the Dr replaced the steri-strips with paper tape I had a reaction, so I used some steri strips I had here at the house. Unfortunately the Dr is unwilling to supply me with anymore and I am unable to find any so until they arrive via the mail (I ordered them online) I have to use the paper tape since the Dr wants some kind of tape on them.
I have one area on my right breast I am watching. When I changed my steri strips tonight I noticed a small area that was open and red. It was not oozing or anything, but it looked like it needed a bit of air, so when I replaced the steri strips with the tape I left that spot open. It already looks good. I think I am going to have to change the tapes about once every three days though since its not as adhesive as the steri strips. I shower once a day and all that water in the tape makes them get gooey.
I did change all the tape though, and my nipple incisions are looking great. When I change the tapes next I will get some pictures of them too.
But like I said I feel really great, and although I am a little tired, and my endurance for anything physical is less than I am used to, I still feel well. My left breast is a little less symmetrical at this point, but its still early in the game. I still have some residual bruising on the left breast, but its not painful. My left nipple is slowly coming back to sensation. I feel it a little more every day. The right nipple is incredibly sensitive, so I think at this point I am happy with the combination.
From this point I will still continue to post pictures on a weekly basis and I will just enter a bit here and there as far as the journal goes. I pretty much feel normal, but I am still taking it easy. And will continue to for the next couple weeks. I return to the Dr in three weeks, so hopefully he will be pleased. :-)
